Jeff Armstrong
New York native, Jeff Armstrong (b. 1967) is a prolific composer, performer, teacher, band director and arranger. A world class Guitarist and Bassist, Jeff’s vast repertoire and catalog includes Classical, Flamenco, Jazz, Blues, Latin, Rock and Metal styles. Jeff is the Associate Professor of Jazz and Guitarist at Marist College, directs both of the Jazz and Guitar ensembles and is an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma, National Band Fraternity and Sorority. He also taught at Bard College, SUNY, and Alto Music for over 20 years.
Jeff Armstrong earned an MFA at Bard College and three Undergraduate Degrees at New Paltz College and SUNY. He has studied composition with John Tower, Meyer Kupferman and others as well as Flamenco guitar and voice in NYC. Jeff has performed all over the North-East, solo in prestigious concert halls as well as all the now-historic clubs including CBGB’s with his former metal band D.I.E. Jeff has been featured in many national and regional publications and received many accolades including Gannet, USA Today and HV Magazine’s ‘Best Musician of the Hudson Valley.’
Jeff Armstrong has composed over 250 pieces, arranged another 100, published over 20 books and has released 10 CD’s. His music is designed with both artistic and educational goals in mind. Jeff is highly influenced by the varied catalogs of Bach, Ellington, and others as he walks the line between historical and contemporary relevance. He also credits his teachers for knowledge and inspiration and enjoys passing the torch to his students. Jeff Armstrong resides in historic Hyde Park on the Hudson River and enjoys painting, history, auto racing, trains, sports, friends, family, and his dogs.
